Research shows that we think that young people have more sex than they actually are. Especially men have a twisted understanding of the sex life of young women. The researches of the research and consultancy company Ipsos about false perceptions were collected in the book The Perils of Perception. In the research, people living in the United Kingdom and the United States were asked to predict how much sex they have had in the last month of their 18-29 age group in their home country. The average estimate in both countries was concentrated on young men having sex 14 times a month. In fact, detailed research on sexual behavior showed that the real figure was five in the UK and four in the United States. So people think that young men have sex over 180 times a day or more, while the actual figure is around 50 a year.
But this is not the only mistake in our estimates. In both countries, men are in a greater error about the sex life of young women.
In England, men predicted 22 times a month and 23 times in the United States. However, research shows that young women have an average of five times a month.
One of the reasons underlying this misconception is the way we think about it, and the other is the information that is communicated to us.
Comparison problem
Everyone knows that the continuation of our seed depends on sex. But our perceptions on this issue contain many misconceptions. Because it is possible to have a better idea about social norms related to other human behaviors, while the same is not true for the sex behind closed doors. The kind of sex acts that everyone can watch is not the kind that represents true norms.
As we cannot reach the correct information we can do comparison from real life, we are going to other sources, male conversations, suspicious surveys, obscene media and porn. These are distorting our reality perception because they contain extreme examples and questionable anecdotes
Number of sexual partners
In the same study, people from the three countries were asked to estimate the number of sexual partners they have had until 45-54. In terms of men, these estimates were very close to reality.
In Australia and the UK, according to men's testimony, by the age of 45-54 there were 17 sexual partners in the United States and 19 in the United States.
But when we compare men and women, we see that the situation is completely different, and that the average number of sexual partners that women express is much less than that of men.
According to women's statements, the average number of sexual partners is half the number of sexual partners of men. But a statistical dilemma is emerging here. Because these numbers must correspond to each other.
Among the reasons for this are the fact that men resort to mercenary sex and that men and women evaluate different sex practices differently.
However, the biggest factor in this difference is the tendency of males to inflate numbers consciously or unconsciously, whereas women tend to decrease this figure.
